Anahata Ananda Development Project (Anahata Safe Home)

Since 2020, the Anahata Ananda Development Project has been creating a safe place for children, young women, and older women who have experienced violence, abuse, or exclusion. There they find shelter, food, and medical care, as well as psychological support and an environment characterized by respect, care, and community.
Since 2025, the project has been eligible to receive support from abroad, which is why the Anahata Foundation has also been involved since then.

In the attached training center, the women acquire practical skills that open up new paths to a self-determined life—from crafts to creative activities. The program is complemented by yoga, meditation, and art therapy, which help to develop inner strength and process trauma. In this way, the project becomes a source of hope and confidence for women in difficult life situations.

The ongoing drought in Anantapur district (Andhra Pradesh) has plunged many families into extreme poverty and exacerbated numerous social problems: men are losing their jobs, turning to alcohol and becoming violent, while women not only suffer violence but also have to contribute to the family income. Older women are often left without support when families migrate to the cities. This is where the Anahata shelter comes in: it offers up to 50 children, young women, and senior citizens accommodation, meals, medical care, and psychological support. The aim is to prevent abuse, exclusion, and exploitation and to open up new perspectives. Depending on their life situation, the residents stay in the shelter for a few months or permanently. A small team consisting of management, a social worker, cooks, cleaning staff, security guards, and a nurse provides care, safety, and support in everyday life, creating a place where women in need can regain dignity, stability, and hope.
